Summary:
Security of supply regulation obliges companies to design optimal operation procedures during emergency state of the network. Besides, reliability constraints must be considered in order to obtain planning decisions able to meet regulations. Regulation audits companies’ performance by means of power supply reliability indexes. Thus, estimation of reliability indexes of medium voltage (MV) distribution networks is a key issue. This paper presents a novel method to carry out the fault location and service restoration processes. For a specific fault, the
method establishes the optimal operation procedure to locate it and to restore the service minimizing the non supplied energy (NSE). In addition, weak regions of the studied networks can be located since reliability indexes can be estimated for every single network bus. The proposed approach comprises a heuristic algorithm for network reconfiguration. Besides, it takes into account real operation criteria considered during emergency state of distribution networks. The method is able to address large-scale and complex real MV distribution networks.
The performance of the proposed method is illustrated considering actual scenarios of Iberdrola MV network in Madrid.
